Leadership & Operations Assessment

Understand what is getting in the way of better execution.

When the same problems keep returning, it can be difficult to tell whether the issue is leadership, communication, accountability, or the way work is organized. Thompson Leadership & Operations Consulting helps manufacturing companies and outdoor-industry businesses examine those connections and identify practical priorities for improvement.

When an assessment is a useful starting point

  • Leaders spend too much time responding to recurring problems.

  • Responsibilities or performance expectations are unclear.

  • Communication breaks down between people, teams, or shifts.

  • Improvement efforts lose momentum after the initial discussion.

  • You need an outside perspective before deciding where to invest time and resources.

What we examine

The scope is shaped around your organization and the challenge you want to address. An assessment can include leadership interviews, operational observations, a review of accountability and communication practices, and discussion of the barriers affecting team performance.

We look at how leadership expectations connect to daily work: who owns decisions, how priorities are communicated, how progress is reviewed, and where follow-through breaks down.

What you can receive

Depending on the agreed scope, deliverables can include:

  • A findings report outlining observed leadership and operational challenges.

  • An executive debrief to discuss findings, questions, and priorities.

  • Prioritized improvement opportunities to help leaders decide where to focus.

  • A 90-day action plan to turn recommendations into practical next steps.

The proposal defines the work and deliverables before the engagement begins. Recommendations reflect the information and access available during the assessment.

How the engagement works

  1. Discuss the challenge. Tell us about your organization, location, recurring issues, and what you want to understand.

  2. Define the scope. We agree on participants, access, activities, delivery format, schedule, and deliverables.

  3. Examine the situation. Interviews, observations, and review activities focus on the agreed priorities.

  4. Review findings and next steps. We discuss the findings and a practical path for action.

Questions about the assessment

Do you visit our facility?

Client-site travel is available beyond western Pennsylvania. On-site observation may be useful when the work depends on understanding daily operations. Tell us your location so we can discuss travel and access as part of the scope.

Can an assessment be conducted remotely?

Remote consulting is available. We will discuss whether interviews and review activities can meet your objectives remotely or whether an on-site component would provide a better basis for the assessment.

How long does it take, and what does it cost?

Timing and fees depend on the agreed scope, participants, locations, and deliverables. Start with an inquiry so we can understand your needs and discuss a proposal.

Can you help after the assessment?

Follow-on support can include supervisor and frontline leader development, executive coaching, and team accountability work. Any additional engagement is scoped separately around your priorities.
